Psyomaster Ryuken (2004-08)

As mentioned in the FAQ, along with nutty fun comics in my early teens, Genma Visage had roots in the novella series "Kouryu Sukuinushi" or "Psyomaster Ryuken", which had dreams for the big screen and an animated series. Set in a mysterious world, this fantasy tale was about a magical martial-artist trekking the barbaric wastelands to end the Tyranny of the one known as the Shogun, protecting the innocent country folk along the way and bringing forth the benevolent wisdom of the Order that he served.

Things sure went through the grinder before becoming Genma Visage! Still, I observe in these the young groundwork for my structural, established identity. Siphoning through the sketchbooks, this work from 2003-07 range in art styles from Manga to Modern art surrealism. With the latter I was attempting Tarot and Jungian symbolism for a short while and presented here is their high point of trial and error. The present Genma series at this point has nevertheless brought peaceful closure to those early drafts.

Several further notes are provided as and when. Psyomaster Ryuken is non-canon to Genma Visage, yet as we approach 2007, the familiar creative DNA began to present itself with the early designs and the slow transition to more horror-inspired imagery. Also included is the first mock covers for the Genma Visage books along with the even earlier artwork for the Tytronitek city saga, back when weeaboo ruled supreme.
